Every summer, we have the opportunity to welcome undergraduate and master’s students with a wide range of interests and ambitions. For them, it’s a chance to gain hands-on experience and enrich the early stages of their professional journey. For us, it’s a window into emerging talent and fresh ways of thinking. This initiative is a strategic decision that helps us look to the future.
Who hasn’t wondered, while studying, what it would be like to put all that classroom learning into practice? Yet all too often, when we step into the world of work, we discover that daily life has little to do with our notes and that the reality isn’t quite as exciting as we imagined. This is exactly why offering an environment where students can apply, test and rethink what they’ve learnt is so important. It ensures that their internship is not just another academic milestone, but a truly transformative experience that helps them reflect on what their future career could look like, while gaining insight into how an organisation works.
Beyond the support the students provide during their time with us, we gain an unbiased and critical perspective. This challenges us to better explain the reasoning behind what we do (where “we’ve always done it this way” no longer holds), to revisit our processes and to ask the questions we often overlook. Their presence sparks internal dialogue, opens up space for experimentation and fosters a more open and collaborative culture. Ultimately, they act as a catalyst for learning throughout the organisation, especially when we listen to them and take their ideas on board beyond day-to-day tasks. These internships offer mutual value by providing an opportunity for students to reflect on their professional future and a source of fresh insight and renewal for the organisation.
With this vision in mind, and with the aim of making the internship experience more than just a placement in a specific department, Creand organises the “Creand Summer Innovation Challenge”. Led by the Human Relations department with support from the Innovation team, this initiative invites students to take on a real business challenge. They are given the tools and space to design their own solution. Throughout the process, they develop or refine key skills such as design thinking, effective communication, critical thinking and the ability to propose ideas with real impact.
Programmes like this are more than just training; they are a way to unlock creativity, connect teams and highlight how the contributions of those just starting out can spark real change. Some of the ideas that emerge from these programmes go on to inspire new initiatives within the organisation. It shows us that listening to young talent isn’t simply a kind gesture but a smart investment. The success of the programme is clear in the enthusiasm shown by both students and the organisation to take part.
Young people who take part in internships at companies, including those who join us at our offices, are there to learn but they also have something to teach us. The future is shaped not only by experience but also by curiosity, energy and the fresh outlook of those who are just starting out. We firmly believe that experiential learning programmes led by companies are an opportunity to welcome young talent, strengthen our teams and rethink the way we work. Backing young people early on also helps retain talent within the country by offering meaningful, engaging career opportunities close to home. Together, we can build a more diverse, better prepared and future-ready community.
