THE BUSINESS SUMMIT ON THE NEW WORLD ORDER
One of Catalonia’s leading economic and business summits returns — an event in which the Principality of Andorra has long played a visible and significant role. Now celebrating its thirty-sixth year, the Trobada Empresarial al Pirineu (Business Meeting in the Pyrenees), held in La Seu d’Urgell, will once more serve as a key gathering point for hundreds of business leaders committed to the region. It provides a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and transformative experiences.
The growth of the Meeting — in both the number of attendees (set to reach nine hundred this year) and the calibre of its speakers — owes much to the consistent relevance of the topics placed at the heart of each edition. A glance back at its history speaks volumes. From the inaugural event in June 1990, which explored Europe’s prospects ahead of the Single Market, to more recent editions focused on sustainable growth, the strategic demands of a constantly shifting environment, the uncertainties generated by successive crises, as well as the new economy, globalisation and innovation — the Meeting has never shied away from addressing the key concerns shaping our societies and economies.
This year is clearly no exception. The 2025 edition, taking place on 12 and 13 June, is titled Business in the Face of the New World Order — a timely theme if ever there was one.As Josep Serveto, president of the Meeting, noted in his recent presentation in Andorra, businesses once more find themselves navigating a climate of profound uncertainty. Yet again. This time, it is driven by a complex macroeconomic and geopolitical landscape, emerging global leaderships and political decisions that have the potential to reshape the world order and the economy — both in the United States and in Europe. The risk of a broader global trade crisis cannot be discounted. This new scenario, marked by international tensions, demands innovative responses and strategies capable of adapting to the new context. This year’s Meeting will again offer a constructive lens and provide tools to support decision-making by business leaders and executives.
In my view, one of the enduring strengths of the Meeting is its ability to approach each issue from diverse, wide-ranging and plural perspectives, which have broadened horizons and encouraged reflection. This year, perhaps more than ever, it will be valuable to hear from business owners, executives and political leaders as we grapple with the challenges that lie before us. These challenges concern us all, and overcoming them also depends on all of us, on the ability of the public and private sectors to act in a coordinated manner. Salvador Illa, Xavier Espot, a minister from the Spanish government, along with high-profile figures such as Movetia founder Jordi Termes; CaixaBank president Tomás Muniesa; and governor of the Bank of Spain José Luis Escrivá, round off a line-up of top speakers. Other key draws this year will be the opening address by psychiatrist Marian Rojas Estapé, as well as successful business cases and strategic insights from Andorra and Catalonia — a hallmark of the Meeting over the years.
It continues to be a pleasure for Creand to actively participate in and drive the Business Meeting in the Pyrenees. Personally, I am honoured to serve on its Executive Committee and to contribute through the bank’s continued sponsorship — a commitment we have renewed again this year.
The Meeting is an example of cross-border cooperation between two countries: Spain and the Principality of Andorra. Collaboration between neighbouring territories can offer a powerful opportunity to strengthen synergies, share knowledge and build bridges that foster sustainable economic growth — in which Andorra must play an essential role. Numerous projects and business ventures have taken shape thanks to these Meetings, which have succeeded in connecting regions, companies and people. Many of these initiatives have emerged from Andorra itself, driven by the economic opening process that has taken place in recent years. I believe this trend is irreversible and it is a unique opportunity for all of us. One we cannot afford to miss.
